How to take flat lay photos for instagram - My tips

Thursday 26 May 2016

Its has only been a week since i last posted but it feels like I haven't spoken to you all in absolute ages! However today i am going to be sharing a few of my tips on how i take flat lay photos for instagram, before i start i just want to say i am no photographer expert this is just some things which have helped me!

Use of backgrounds

Before you start taking any photos you want to pick a background i would recommend changing your background up so it doesn't look repetitive however for the purpose of this post i just stuck with one. Recently i been loving using this rustic wood effect wallpaper but i would pick a background which hasn't got too much going on.

Keep colours tonal

When picking things to take photos of try and get a collection of objects that have similar colours, this stops the photo from looking to all over the place and isn't as random.

Position objects neatly

The placing of your items is one of the most important parts, so you will want to place everything neatly so it looks more appealing to the eye as well as not over powering the photo by adding too many things.

Square view

When taking photos with my phone i will often take the photo as a square view just so i can fit everything i want to photograph in and then you won't have empty spaces at the sides.

Natural lighting

I would definitely recommend shooting with natural lighting. This allows you to see the natural colours and so the lighting doesn't look too harsh, taking photos outside would be a good idea of even somewhere near a window.

Shoot from above

Finally a key point which makes your flat lays look a lot better is taking the photos from above. This allows you to capture the overhead shot, just be careful to not stand in the way of your natural lighting other wise that will cause a shadow over your flat lay.

I hope you enjoyed this post also please leave in the comments some blog post suggestions which you would like to see in the future!
